Grover C. Peters III retired from the United States Army as a Medical Service Corps officer, earned his law degree in 2004, and then spent fifteen years applying it from inside healthcare — as a chief operating officer, chief information officer and chief executive officer — before entering private practice in 2019.
The law degree came from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He did not go straight into practice with it. He used it running healthcare organizations, where it informed the work directly: he contributed to the drafting of legislation governing provider ownership of freestanding emergency departments. He has practiced privately since 2019 and is licensed in four states — Texas, New Mexico, Washington and Oregon.
Why that background matters here
It is not decoration, and the sequence is the point. A lawyer who has only ever practiced law knows what the statutes say. Fifteen years of running healthcare organizations with a law degree means also knowing how those rules land on the ground — where they are enforced, where they are quietly ignored, and what an institution does when a family pushes back.
Elder law is largely about long-term care, and long-term care is an industry with staffing models, admission criteria, discharge pressures and cost structures. Having run those organizations means advising families on how the system behaves rather than how the brochure says it works.
The same is true in medical malpractice and personal injury matters, where the records, protocols and standards the defense will rely on are documents he spent a career reading.
And running organizations under pressure for two decades produces a habit that clients tend to notice first: plain answers about what a matter will cost, how long it will take, and what is likely to go wrong.
